Tilted Torch Takes You on a Wild Night at The Capital Fringe Festival

Miss Joule and Malibu, the ladies behind Tilted Torch, have been entertaining DC audiences for the last three years with shows that feature hooping, fire, burlesque, circus, and music. Last year Tilted Torch presented Illuminopolis at The Capital Fringe Festival, a show that took you on a stroll through a wonderfully lit-up city with glowing, whimsical characters. It was the first time that Tilted Torch participated in Fringe, the first-time fire performance was incorporated in a Fringe production, and the first time burlesque was presented to Fringe audiences. Tilted Torch had a wonderful time in the festival and enjoyed the community-building aspects of Fringe. They knew that they would be back! This year, their inspiration is drawn from the choose-your-own-adventure children’s books which were popular in the 1980s and 1990s. The books were written in the second person, referring to the reader as “you.” The reader makes choices throughout the story that determines the plot and eventual outcome.

Tilted Torch originally developed the Wild Night: A Choose Your Own Burlesque Adventure show in October 2011 at Creative Alliance in Baltimore, MD. As is the case for all Tilted Torch productions, several guest performers joined the team and the entire cast worked together to choose the acts and create the script. The Fringe iteration of the show features different guest performers, which means a new script and new acts. Alongside Joule and Malibu, burlesque performer Cherrie Sweetbottom and tribal fusion belly dancer Shaell will be bringing the show to Fringe this year, while Shortstaxx narrates the evening’s adventures. Come be the author of your own sensational burlesque escapade!
