A dedicated Union nurse and a mysterious Confederate refugee meet on the Shiloh battlefield to compete for the title of Best Female Reenactor of the Year. With their young trainees trying to outdo each other in “authenticity,” and a concessionaire working both sides to her best advantage, their competition leads them into real conflict with Ranger Wilson, an African-American park ranger who would rather be anywhere than the year 1862, imaginary or not. As the re-enactment rages out of control, all six women discover that some Civil War conflicts have lasted well beyond the surrender at Appomattox…

6 women, ages 20 and up. One must be African-American.
All roles open. Descriptions are of character appearance and temperament, not age of actors. Actors must be able to perform light physical activity and lifting.

Miss Clara May Abbott, female, 35+
Union nurse re-enactor. Passionately competitive, she is known to do whatever is necessary to earn success.

    Meg Barton, female, 20s
New Union nurse re-enactor; Clara’s trainee. Eager but questioning, she exhibits a practical, take-charge determination when the going gets tough.

Mrs. Cecelia DeLaunay Pettison, female, 40+
Confederate refugee re-enactor. Quiet and dignified, she is fiercely proud and protective of her Southern heritage.

    LucyGale Scruggs, female, 20s
New Confederate refugee re-enactor; Cecilia’s trainee. Thoughtful and deliberate, she takes her role seriously when called upon to defend her position.

    Widow Beckwith, female, 35+
Concessionaire and newsletter publisher for both sides. A quick-witted opportunist, she is Switzerland.

    Ranger Wilson, female, 30+
African American U.S Park Ranger. A dedicated professional, she will do the job regardless of her personal feelings.

The Colonial Players, Inc. is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer community theater with an open casting policy. All auditions are open to the public and no roles are pre-cast. All roles are non-paying. Auditions are held in our Annex at 2132 Renard Court (off General’s Highway near the Annapolis Mall) unless otherwise noted. All performances are held at 108 East Street, just off State Circle, in historic Annapolis. The Colonial Players welcomes actors and other volunteers of all backgrounds and skill levels.
