MINDSET Set to Rock Capital Fringe
A rock band, nine dance numbers, ethereal creatures, an eight-foot flower, a dramatic trashcan and an accordion – they all are part of one engaging production at this year’s Capital Fringe Festival. Dynamic, thoughtful, and strangely addictive, MINDSET at the 2012 Capital Fringe Festival promises to deliver, in a production that examines facing fears and nurturing creativity.
MINDSET is a surrealist rock opera created, directed and choreographed by Jace Casey. It follows an artist through life and deals with themes of fear, self-consciousness, limitations and, finally, self-liberation.
Casey has a personal connection with the plot since he began performing at a young age and had to deal with these issues earlier than most.
On its second run, MINDSET is proving to be even more entertaining. “It’s amazing to see your show go from an idea to the stage. And now it’s even more satisfying to be able to fine-tune it,” said Casey.
Already, veteran performers are taking notice. “I have been a dance teacher for fifty years. I was very moved, by the message in MINDSET,” said Nancy Newell, owner of DC Dance Collective who saw the first workshop run of MINDSET in March. “It’s a thoughtful, energetic production looking at choices from the beginning of an artist’s life. Weeks later, Mindset continues to whisper and resonate in my heart. It is never too late to embrace the creative process,” added Newell.
Joining his cast are local professional teen actors Brittany O’Grady, Taylor Dawson and Caitlin O’Grady who, along with Casey, were cast members at the Ford’s Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol. Since the Ford’s production, the actors have performed at some of Washington’s premier venues, including Signature Theatre, The Kennedy Center, Olney Theatre Center, Theatre J and Synetic Theater.
