Glade Dance Collective presented a beautiful and moving production, Am There I Yet?, at the Elstad Auditorium at Gallaudet University. The piece is described as “an exploration of #adulting in the modern world” and shows the journey of life, from working a job, finding love, buying a home, and having children, through the expression of contemporary dance.
There is no specific plotline but, instead, is a delicately interwoven visual interpretation of life experiences. There is the slacker employee and the hard-working over-achiever, break-downs, lovers, moments of cohesive team work, and times of scrambling to make it to the top.
The lighting and sound design by Creeseworks/Christopher Creese was wonderfully done and accentuated moments with many assorted cuts of music, interspersed with pre-recorded inter-musings of some of the performers that accompanied their actions and, many times, complete silence, with only the sound of the dancers’ breathing and the fabric of their clothes as they moved.
The production features dancers Lauren Borchard, Sylvana Christopher, Emma Dozier, Shauna Edson, Maggie Lockhart, Rachael Mucha, Betsy Loikow, Sarah Raker, and Amity Pope. This ensemble of women worked perfectly together and effortlessly conveyed moments of over-whelming frustration and breath-taking beauty.
Am I There Yet? is an incredible combination of sound, dance, and emotion. The production takes you through the exploration of what it is to be an adult, its ups and downs and all of the emotions that come with it. Go experience this stunning show and enjoy the beauty and complexity of life through dance.
