Best Medicine Rep, Gaithersburg, Maryland’s professional theater company, is proud to present the first of its lineup for the 2017-2018 Play Reading Series. Derek Jeter Makes the Play by Robin Rothstein will be presented on October 8 at 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Lakeforest Mall.
Derek Jeter Makes the Play is Robin Rothstein’s examination of an unhealthy obsession with the New York Yankees. Jackie, a young, salt of the earth dental hygienist is at a crossroad. It’s July 2011 and as her Yankee hero, Derek Jeter approaches his 3,000th hit milestone, Jackie realizes that her long-term relationship with fellow die-hard Jeter fan, Sal, is on the Disabled List. Her commitment to Sal is tested when a charming, new patient appears in her life, offering the dreamy possibility of marriage, home and adventure. Is Jackie and Sal’s mutual passion for Derek Jeter the only thing keeping them together? Can Derek help Jackie find her way back to love?
Robin Rothstein is a playwright, lyricist, book-writer, and producer currently living in New York. She originated the idea for the off-Broadway hit family musical Mad Libs Live! and works as Director of Operations for Broadway Across America.
Best Medicine Rep’s Artistic Director John Morogiello will direct the reading. Says Morogiello, “We’re swinging for the fences with this first reading of the season! It’s funny, poignant, and arrives just in time for the baseball playoffs.”
