While it’s Nutcracker season for most dance companies across the region, Charm City Ballet presents something unique: its original full-length ballet, A Christmas Carol.
Directors, founders, and choreographers of Charm City Ballet, Rebecca Friedman and Peter Commander, are 2009 graduates of Goucher College where they studied and performed in the highly regarded dance department with both faculty and renowned guest artists. Their productions are unique in that community dancers from all walks of life perform together in high-quality ballet versions of familiar tales. Following their first sold-out ballet, A Christmas Carol, in December 2015, CCB received acclaim from local publications, has been consistently chosen as a Baltimore Sun Critic’s Pick, and was included in DC Metro Theater Arts’ list, “Best of 2015-Memorable Dance in Baltimore & Beyond.” Kaley Beins, MD Theatre Guide dance critic, said the following after CCB’s spring 2018 production of The Little Mermaid: “The energy they brought to their performance reinvigorated the storyline…This is a dance company to follow.” Read more about Charm City Ballet and their past production of A Christmas Carol in the Baltimore Sun here.
