The Broadway League has just announced another extension of the cancellation of Broadway performances due to the coronavirus pandemic. Ticket refunds and exchanges on all Broadway shows are now offered through January 3, 2021, with tickets for winter and spring productions in 2021 expected to go on sale in the coming weeks.
The League continues to work with city and state officials, scientific and medical leaders, and specialists in technology on developing protocols for a safe reopening. Among the procedures currently under review for audiences, theater staff, and cast and crew members are screening and testing for COVID-19, cleaning and sanitizing of all surfaces and areas of the theater, approaches to wayfinding inside theaters, and backstage regimens, along with many others.
According to Thomas Schumacher, Chairman of the Board of The Broadway League, “The safety of our cast, crew, orchestra, and audience is our highest priority and we look forward to returning to our stages only when it’s safe to do so.” Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin reaffirmed that “We are focused on identifying and implementing necessary measures that will enable us to resume performances safely for Broadway audiences and employees . . . We are determined to bring back the people who rely on this industry for their livelihood and to welcome back all those who love this vital part of New York City . . . We have so many more stories to tell.”
Those holding tickets for performances through January 3, 2021, will receive an email from their point of purchase with detailed information regarding refund and exchange options. Ticket holders who have not received an email by July 13 are advised to contact their point of purchase for assistance beginning on July 14.
Returning productions are currently projected to resume performances over a series of rolling dates in early 2021. For regular updates on ticket sales, individual show announcements, performance dates, and more, readers are advised to check back with us, or to visit The Broadway League’s official website at Broadway.org for information as it becomes available.
