Starting today, a selection of more than 200 videos, culled from eleven years of live acts by a roster of top Broadway stars and acclaimed global artists at The Cabaret, will go digital on the nonprofit venue’s revamped YouTube channel. So if you’re missing the nightlife you enjoyed before the COVID-19 shutdown, you can BYOB and be entertained at home by a variety of luminaries from the New York stage, presented at no cost to viewers, by the award-winning Indianapolis nightclub.
The Cabaret staff has been working with more than 100 artists during the ongoing process of curating, editing, and creating themed collections of their own favorite performances. The plan is to build the online offerings by adding new releases to the virtual catalogue at least every two weeks. Among those currently featured in The Glick Philanthropies Broadway Series playlist are Alan Cumming, Billy Porter, Laura Benanti, Jennifer Holliday, Gavin Creel, Mandy Gonzalez, Megan Hilty, Kate Baldwin, Norm Lewis, Lindsay Mendez, Stephanie J. Block, Cheyenne Jackson, and many others who played there.
In addition to the Broadway performances, The Christel DeHaan International Series includes such renowned international artists such as Paris Combo, Ute Lemper, Meow Meow, and Katherine Mehrling, and The Vande Bosche Jazz and American Songbook Series playlist presents videos of jazz greats like The Hot Sardines, Parlor Social, Gunhild Carling, Allan Lewis, and the late Cynthia Lane. Master classes and Q&As led by Broadway stars, as well as student performances, can also be accessed as a part of The Thomas P. Murphy Next Generation education programming playlist.
Viewing of the wide array of selections is available on YouTube and free for everyone, but donations are welcome. You can also follow The Cabaret on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, or visit the website, for continued updates.
