Valentine’s Day falls on Sunday this year, but the celebration is not limited to just one day. Three favorites from the NYC stage are offering a full weekend line-up of romantic concerts you’ll love, streaming from intimate venues in destinations outside the city. And the even better news is, you don’t have to choose one, because these three top picks each stream on a different day!
John Lloyd Young’s Vegas Valentine – It’s all about love when Tony and Grammy Award-winner John Lloyd Young (Broadway’s Jersey Boys and the Warner Bros. movie adaptation) returns to The Space in Las Vegas on Friday, February 12, with an unforgettable evening of popular love songs, romantic ballads, and beloved Four Seasons hits. The 75-minute livestreamed concert offers an up-close and personal online experience to be enjoyed by loved ones from the safety of home, as Young – the only American actor to date to have received all four major honors (the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Theatre World Award) for a lead performance in a Broadway musical – sings a set list that includes such classics as “Unchained Melody,” “Since I Fell for You,” “Only You,” “My Eyes Adored You,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” and more.
After the concert (with music direction by the Grammy-nominated Tommy Faragher, who has been working with Young as his music director/producer/co-writer since 2012), stick around to join JLY for a post-show virtual Valentine’s date, where, over a bottle of wine, he’ll have one-on-one talk-back conversations with callers selected from questions they’ve submitted in advance. The evening will conclude with a grand-finale encore performance of his brand-new cover of an all-time romantic favorite. “I’ve been giving Valentine’s concerts for the good part of a decade,” said John Lloyd. “It’s a specialty and a tradition for me and the pandemic isn’t going to stop that. I look forward to having a special date night with all my music-loving fans.”
John Lloyd Young’s Vegas Valentine streams live on Friday, February 12, at 9:00 pm ET, from The Space in Las Vegas. The pay-per-view concert is priced at $30 and the concert with the VIP virtual after-party, beginning at 10:45 pm, is $100. The concert will be available On-Demand for one week following the live performance. For tickets, go online.
The Boy Band Project – The weather in Puerto Vallarta, on Mexico’s Pacific coast, isn’t the only thing that’s hot this snowy Valentine’s Day weekend. The Palm Cabaret is set to reopen on Saturday, February 13, with the NYC-based Boy Band Project – a rotating roster of four sizzling stars from Altar Boyz and other top Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals, covering the greatest hits of such popular guy groups as NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Hanson, One Direction, 98 Degrees, O-Town, Boyz II Men, Jonas Brothers, and more. The current line-up, filmed live in concert, features Jesse Corbin, Chris Messina, Nic Metcalf, and founder Travis Nesbitt in a fully choreographed show that reimagines the harmonies, moves, sex appeal, and energy of the originals, with extra spice that will make you scream “Be Mine” – online!
A favorite of NYC fans for their popular Boy Band Brunch – a weekly event at The Green Room 42 that earned them the 2019 Broadway World Cabaret Award for Best Group – The Boys garnered a well-deserved eight nominations in the recent 2020 BWW Awards, winning two for Best Original Song (for their holiday bop “Jingle My Bells”) and Best Ensemble Soloist for Messina. So get ready to “embrace your inner superfan” and live out “your boy band fantasy” with this steaming streaming event.
The Boy Band Project streams on Saturday, February 13, at 7:30 pm, on both The BBP and The Palm Facebook pages. Tickets are free, but you can tip the band and donate to the venue during the show, through Venmo @theboybandproject and paypal.me/thepalmcabaret.
Ann Hampton Callaway: Let’s Fall in Love – Celebrate Valentine’s Day proper on the 14th in the comfort and safety of your own home with singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host, producer, and Tony nominee (Swing!) Ann Hampton Callaway, one of the leading champions of the great American Songbook. Known to audiences everywhere for writing and performing the theme song to the hit TV series The Nanny, Calloway, in her unique acclaimed style, blends jazz with traditional pop, vocal virtuosity with piano artistry, and familiar standards with her own originals (seven of which are featured on Barbra Streisand’s recent CDs), for an evening filled with beautiful love songs.
The full one-hour set is presented by Tarrytown, NY’s warm and intimate 85-seat Jazz Forum – the only dedicated jazz club in Westchester County – which has remained closed since March 8, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, the venue continues its online programming with livestreams of artists from their homes to yours. To ensure that the shows go on and the club can stay afloat and reopen when it’s safe, donations to its Jazz Together campaign are welcome.
